WUT (Windows Universal Tool)

Turn On Developer Mode

If you just want to install custom `.appx` or `.appxbundle` files, you don't need any complex hacks—just flick a setting on your phone.

1. Open Settings: Launch Settings on your phone.
2. Go to Developer Settings: Head to Update & Security → For developers.
3. Enable Developer Mode: Tap the Developer mode option and confirm the prompt.

✓ Done! You can now tap `.appx` files in File Explorer or Edge to install them straight onto your phone.

Deploying Legacy Apps & Tools from PC

If you want to install older Windows Phone `.xap` apps or deep system mods like CMD Injector, your phone needs to be **Interop Unlocked**. You'll use the PC deployment tool to push them over USB.

1. Get the PC Deployment Tool:
   • Grab and install **Windows Phone Application Deployment** (included in the lightweight *SDK 8.1 Lite* package).

2. Plug In Your Phone: Connect your Interop-unlocked Lumia to your PC using a USB cable. Keep the phone screen unlocked and Developer Mode turned on.
3. Deploy Your App:
   • Launch **Windows Phone Application Deployment** on your computer.
   • Set the **Target** dropdown to `Device`.
   • Click **Browse**, pick your `.xap` file (like **CMD Injector**), and click **Deploy**.
4. Open on Phone: Once it finishes, the app will show up right in your phone's App List ready to open.

Deploying Apps Wirelessly via Local IP

You can send `.appx` apps over your local home Wi-Fi network without digging out a USB cable.

1. Turn on Device Portal: Go to Settings → Update & Security → For developers on your phone, then toggle ON both **Device Discovery** and **Device Portal**.
2. Grab Your Phone's IP: Make sure your PC and Lumia are on the same Wi-Fi. Look under the Device Portal section on your phone to find its IP address (looks like 192.168.1.15).
3. Connect in PC Browser: Open a browser on your PC, type in https://<your-phone-ip>, tap **Pair** on the phone to grab a 6-digit pin code, enter it in your PC browser, then go to **Apps → Install App** to upload `.appx` files wirelessly.

Unlocking the SPEC-B Bootloader

This guide walks you through fully unlocking the bootloader on supported SPEC-B Lumia hardware using **Windows Phone Internals**. Note: The Microsoft Lumia 535 is NOT supported due to hardware limitations that cause the unlock to fail mid-way.

1. Install Required PC Drivers & Tools:
   • Download and install Windows Device Recovery Tool (WDRT) on your PC to get all necessary USB/flashing drivers.
   • Download Windows Phone Internals (WPInternals).
2. Download Device Firmware & Emergency Files:
   • Connect your Lumia to PC and open WPInternals to find your phone's RM-type and Product Code on the home tab.
   • Head to LumiaDB, search for your phone's RM-type or Product Code, and download your matching stock .ffu firmware file.
   • Download the matching Emergency Flash Files (.ede / .hex / .mbn) for your device model from the Lumia Emergency Files Archive.
3. Download Donor FFU:
   • You can download a donor FFU directly on LumiaDB.
4. Unlock Bootloader Process:
   • Select Unlock Bootloader from the left sidebar in WPInternals and click **OK** to reboot the phone into Flash Mode.
   • Choose your **Original FFU**, **Emergency File (.ede)**, and your **Donor FFU** from LumiaDB when prompted.
   • Click **Unlock**. Never disconnect the USB cable during this procedure!
   • The phone will reboot repeatedly during flashing (up to 64+ times, which is completely normal).
   • When the phone enters Mass Storage mode and prompts you, perform a **Soft Reset** by holding **Volume Down + Power** until the device vibrates.
   • Once second flashing finishes, your device boots back into Windows Phone OS with a success message!

Push Initial Build 10586 via PC

Legacy WP8.1 devices can't update to final W10M builds in one jump. You have to push the base Threshold build (10586.107) first from your PC.

1. Prep Your Phone: Make sure your device is running **WP8.1 Update 1 or Update 2** (build 8.10.14219.341 or higher). Plug it into your PC via USB and keep the screen unlocked (WP8.1 connects automatically without needing a developer mode toggle).
2. Open Universal Updater: Download and open Universal Updater v2.7.6.0 on your PC.
3. Push Update Packages:
   • Connect the phone to USB.
   • Select **Offline update packages** → Pick **10.0.10586.107**.
   • Click **Start / Push Packages** and wait for the files to transfer over.
4. Install on Phone: On your Lumia, open Settings → Phone update and hit **Install**. The phone will reboot to spinning gears and turn on running Windows 10 Mobile build 10586!

Trick System into Thinking It's a Newer Model

Since Microsoft blocked older 1st/2nd-gen Lumias from official W10M updates, you need to edit registry values to trick Windows Update into thinking your phone is a Lumia 950 XL or 640 XL.

1. Install Interop Tools: Sideload **Interop Tools** onto your phone running build 10586.
2. Open Registry Editor: Open Interop Tools, select `Registry Provider` (or `This Device`), and head over to: HKLM\SYSTEM\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo
3. Change Registry Keys:
   Modify these values to match a newer supported model (like a Lumia 950 XL or 640 XL):
   • PhoneManufacturer → MicrosoftMDG
   • PhoneManufacturerModelName → RM-1085_11302 (or RM-1073_1004)
   • PhoneModelName → Lumia 950 XL (or Lumia 640 XL)
4. Reboot: Restart your phone so the new identity registers across system files.

Grab Final Anniversary or Creators Update

1. Check Updates: Go to Settings → Update & security → Phone update on your phone (or use Universal Updater on PC).
2. Install Build 14393 or 15063: Your spoofed phone will now download **W10M Redstone 1 (14393)** or **Redstone 2 (15063)** cleanly.
3. Virtual Memory Tweak: After upgrading, open Interop Tools and raise your pagefile size to keep 1GB RAM devices running smoothly without out-of-memory app crashes.

Compatibility Checklist

Astoria runs an Android 4.4.4 subsystem. Newer Android apps will not run, and some apps might show graphic bugs.

• RAM Requirement: Your Lumia must have at least **1GB of RAM**.
• OS Version: Phone must be running **Windows Phone 8.1** (build 8.10.14219.341 or higher) OR **Windows 10 Mobile** (build 10.0.10586.x).

Step-by-Step Setup

1. Set Up Firmware / OS Build:
   • Flash stock WP8.1 (minimum build 8.10.14219.341) or W10M build 10.0.10586.x using **WPInternals**.
   • If updating from WP8.1, use Universal Updater to push the 10.0.10586.107 update package.
2. Unlock Bootloader & Turn On Test Signing:
   • Connect device, open **WPInternals**, reboot to Flash Mode, and click **Unlock Bootloader**.
   • Provide your stock FFU, Emergency files, and a donor FFU from LumiaDB when prompted.
   • Switch to **Mass Storage Mode** in WPInternals and run enableTestSigning.bat as Administrator with your device's MainOS drive letter to finish unlock.
3. Change Phone Date:
   • On your phone, go to Settings → Time & language → Date & time.
   • Turn off automatic date setting and set the date manually to **May 5, 2016**.
4. Install Astoria Subsystem Packages:
   • Extract your downloaded Astoria Packages on PC.
   • Launch **Universal Updater**, choose **Offline update packages**, pick **Stage 01**, and push packages.
   • Open Universal Updater again, pick **Stage 02**, confirm the features (Astoria Driver, Injector, Tools), and push packages.
   • Go to Settings → Update & security → Phone update on your phone to finish installing.
5. Install & Test APK Files:
   • Open **File Explorer** on your phone, go to This Device → Apps → Arcadia.
   • Tap an APK file (like CPU-Z) to install and run Android apps directly on your Windows Phone!
   • Turn automatic date and time back on when you're done.
